Tonj South County Headquarters, Thursday, July 17, 2025 – The Governor of Warrap State, H.E. Amb. Bol Wek Agoth, convened a meeting today with chiefs from the Thony community at the Tonj South County Headquarters, as part of his engagements ahead of the anticipated gathering of Greater Tonj representative chiefs scheduled for Saturday in Tonj Town.
The meeting provided the Governor with an opportunity to familiarize himself with the chiefs and to hear firsthand reports on the condition of vulnerable populations following recent communal skirmishes. The violent clashes had resulted in the destruction of homes, loss of civilian lives, and mass displacement of families.
Governor Agoth pledged his commitment to advocate for the affected communities at the national level, engaging both the Government of South Sudan and humanitarian agencies to mobilize support and assistance for those in need.
Also addressing the meeting, Hon. Elia Mawien Atek, Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies, called on chiefs and county officials to uphold the provisions of the Local Government Act of 2009 and to refrain from involvement in political activities.
The session was attended by senior state officials, including the Deputy Governor, State Ministers, Generals, chiefs, community leaders, and cattle camp leaders, reflecting the broad support for peace and reconciliation efforts in Greater Tonj.
