Saturday, July 19, 2025 – Tonj Community Hall (Kanaf), Tonj South County, Tonj Town
“I will observe zero tolerance towards incitement to violence and complacency in implementation of the State of Emergency,” stated Governor Agoth during the State of Emergency briefing for the communities of Greater Tonj in Tonj Town.
During the meeting, the Governor recounted the circumstances that led President Kiir Mayardit to declare a State of Emergency in Warrap State, including killings and revenge killings, cattle theft, cattle raiding, impunity, and civilians taking the law into their own hands.
Governor Agoth was accompanied by a team of legal counsels who pledged their commitment to establish special and mobile courts, empowering traditional authorities to handle cases that might otherwise escalate into confrontations.
The Governor also expressed interest in reviving Tonj Technical Institute, Kanaf Textile Factory, and completing Alexandria University to equip youth with vital knowledge and skills for development. However, he emphasized that peace is a precondition for such progress.
Meanwhile, Gen. Juma Rehan Deng warned chiefs, youth, and the Mijook-wut community to refrain from any mischief related to the disarmament exercise.
In their addresses, chiefs, women, and youth welcomed the Governor’s call for general disarmament without reservations and expressed full support for the implementation of the State of Emergency to ensure peace prevails in Warrap State.
Present at the meeting were the Deputy Governor, State Advisors, State Ministers, National and State MPs, former Governors, legal counsels, chiefs, women, and youth.
