President Kiir urges new governor to “go and restore peace” in Warrap State

Juba, June 5, 2025 — President Salva Kiir Mayardit has officially sworn in Ambassador Bol Wek Agoth as the new Governor of Warrap State, signaling a renewed commitment by the national government to restore peace, security, and good governance in the conflict-affected region.
During the ceremony held at the State House in Juba, President Kiir urged the people of Tonj and the broader Warrap State community to embrace Governor Bol Wek’s leadership and work collaboratively to end cycles of intercommunal violence and insecurity. He emphasized the critical role of unity and community engagement in building sustainable peace.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Bol Wek Agoth pledged to focus on peacebuilding, law enforcement, and the revitalization of local governance systems. He appealed to Warrap sons and daughters residing in Juba and other parts of the country to serve as peace ambassadors, calling on them to contribute positively to their state’s development and reconciliation efforts.
The swearing-in ceremony comes amid rising concern over insecurity in Warrap State, particularly in Tonj, where recurring violence has claimed lives and disrupted livelihoods. The appointment of Governor Bol Wek is seen as a strategic intervention by the Presidency to usher in a new era of peace and stability in the state.
The new governor’s leadership marks a fresh chapter for Warrap State, with hopes high for tangible progress in governance, social cohesion, and public service delivery under his administration.
